The word Plagiarism originated from Latin 2 words, i.e. ‘plaga' means snare or trap. It has found in all the Romantic Languages meant ‘to steal or kidnap a person. But in 17th century the word became literary theft. Basically it means theft for our personal use.
Now from Oxford dictionary it means stealing some literary item willfully for your own self.
According to the Copyright law it is the act which can be prosecute. Literary stealing or literary piracy is very common for centuries and copyright laws have charges against it.
Although college plagiarism is something else. Colleges have their own laws for college internal crimes. They do not go to the court for them. Earlier, plagiarism in colleges thought to be charged or considered less vulgar or offensive act as compare to the act of theft, rape, etc. But since plagiarism has become common in colleges and college administration taken its notice. Because it could make the reputation of the college notorious not only in the public but also in the education business. It could make the college less valuable. The charges against it are heavy and can damage students' education future. So the student has to be very careful not to plagiarized any documentation and take care of the precautionary measures. First of all he has to use all the quotation marks in all the materials cited. Secondly you have to be sure to describe all the sources of cited materials to your bibliography. Third step is to make sure that at the end of all cites you have to write a reference to the bibliography with writer's publication date. If you do these measures you are on the safe ground. As consider the student guilty because of the charges the teacher is also to be blame in most such cases. Just because of the lack of attention and proper help student may inclined to the plagiarism. Punishing for plagiarism is very productive for the betterment of the student. If the charge of plagiarism is proved with clear dishonesty and intent he should be suspended from college for certain period because it means that the student is deviating from his education goal. It is sure on the account of teacher that he should guide his students clearly about plagiarism and its possible charges and punishments. He should tell his students about the citations and formats matter. Teachers are also found to plagiarized. In such cases he should be charged with the same prosecutionary measure. When the student is guilty about this theft his teacher must share some responsibilities about the guilt. Because the student wants proper guidance from teacher. The moral is that when there is no strong connection between the teacher and student there is a way opening to the plagiarism. |
