            Springfield is the biggest city situated on the Connecticut River and is the county third biggest city in Massachusetts, United States. According to the census of 2000, the total population of the city was about 154,080 that decreased to 150,640 in 2008. Springfield is sometimes known as ‘The City of Homes' and sometimes as ‘The City of Firsts'. Theodor Seuss Geisel, an American writer and a cartoonist, born in this city and also James Naismith, the inventor of the famous game basketball, was also born in this city. Springfield is also well-known of its largest collection of cloisonné, an ancient technique of decoration for metal objects introduced by Chinese, at the G.W. Vincent Smith Art Museum.
